Medical safety
A journal can support a conversation, but it cannot assess you. Use these boundaries to know when software should step aside and care should begin.
Contact local emergency services or go to the nearest emergency department for chest pain, severe trouble breathing, fainting, signs of stroke, thoughts of harming yourself, very heavy bleeding, or any symptom that feels immediately dangerous.
Arrange prompt medical assessment
- Any vaginal bleeding after 12 months without a period.
- Bleeding that is unusually heavy, prolonged, occurs after sex or is accompanied by dizziness or weakness.
- A new breast lump, unexplained weight loss, persistent pelvic pain or another new symptom that concerns you.
- Symptoms that are severe, rapidly worsening or disrupting daily life.
Before treatment
Speak with a qualified clinician before starting, stopping or changing hormone therapy, prescription medicine or supplements. Suitable options depend on your symptoms, age, menstrual history, personal and family medical history, current medicines and preferences.
About menopause
The World Health Organization describes menopause as one point in a continuum of life stages. Natural menopause is generally recognised after 12 consecutive months without menstruation when there is no other physiological or pathological cause. Symptoms and their impact vary widely.
Read the World Health Organization menopause fact sheet or discuss your situation with a licensed clinician.
